Well, folks, it’s coming! A group video chat feature from Facebook.

During the current pandemic, people and business have been looking for alternative ways to keep in touch. There are a few options out there such as Zoom and Skype but now Facebook is dipping there toe in with their new service Facebook Messenger Room.

So let’s take a look at what it is and how to use it and find a new way of keeping in touch.

What Is Messenger Rooms?

Facebook users will be able to create a video chat room either via Facebook or the Messenger app on your phone and be able to invite up to 50 people to join a video call even if they don’t have a Facebook account! Plus as a bonus, there will be no time limits on calls also.

How Will I Be Able To Use It?

Once available, here’s how you will be able to create a Room from your phone:

1. Open the Messenger app.

2. Tap the People tab at the bottom right of the screen.

3. Tap Create a Room and select the people you want to join.

3. To share the room with people who don’t have a Facebook account, you can share a link with them. You can also share the room in your News Feed, Groups and Events.

You can join a room from your phone or computer, no need to download anything.

Facebook also plans to add ways to be able to create Rooms from Instagram, WhatsApp and Portal as well. Some of the features will include 14 camera filters and changeable backgrounds.

What About Privacy?

Privacy protections include the ability to control who sees any Room you have created and that will be able to lock or unlock it. If unlocked, anyone with the link will be able to join and share the Room with other people. The room creator, however, has to be present to be able to start the call. They can control who will be able to join and can also remove participants at any time. There will be the ability to report a room for violating any of Facebook’s rules although those reports will not include any of the video or audio from the call. Facebook stated it doesn’t listen to your calls at all.

When Will It Be Available?

Messenger Rooms will be rolling out in May so keep checking for any updates to your Facebook Messenger app.
