There will be a small flashing line waiting for you to type the persons email address you want to send the email 'To:'. Type in the email address you want to send the email to e.g. dennis@home.co.uk. Next use the mouse to left click once on the white box next to 'Subject:' type in the subject of the email e.g. I have won the lottery. Underneath this box is a large box, this is where you type the contents of the email.
When you have finished typing the message click on send, this puts the email into the 'outbox' To send the email you need to click on 'Send/receive' this sends the email from the 'outbox' across the internet to the person you specified in the 'To:' box.

How to Attach a File
Attaching files lets you send along a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, or even a picture, with your email. Here's how:
Create a new email by clicking on new mail or create mail, once you have finished adding the title and body of the message you need to click on the paper clip icon (attach) at the top of the New Message composition box. Find the file you want to attach, and click twice to attach it. You'll then see the attached file displayed at the bottom of the message composition box. You can attach more than one file by repeating the process.
Viewing File Attachments
To avoid email viruses, you should view attachments only from senders you know and trust. Here's how you view a file attachment that someone has sent you:
When you receive an email with an attachment, next to the subject of the email you will see a paper clip icon. To open the attachment double click on the email subject and then double click on the paper clip icon to open the file. You'll be asked if you want to open the file or save it and read later. If you want to open it right away, Microsoft Windows will automatically start the program needed to view or run the file (provided you have the program associated with that file, such as Microsoft Word). If you want to save the file to read later, just right click on the icon and choose Save As, then save in the desired location.
Use Your Address Book
The Address Book in Outlook Express is a great tool: it saves you from always having to type each email address separately, and helps stop misdirected/undelivered emails caused by address typos.
Address an email to someone
In the New Message window, simply click the To icon and select the recipient name(s).
Copy an address from an email to your address book
Open the email, highlight the person's name, right-click your mouse, and choose the Add to Address Book option. If you're prompted to confirm, hit OK. The person's name and email address will automatically be added to your address book.
Add an address to your address book:
Outlook Express
From the mail page, click the Address Book icon. On the Address Book toolbar, click the New Contact button and select the appropriate tab. Type in the recipient's contact information, click Add, then click OK.
You can also set it up so that when you reply to an email, everyone you reply to will be automatically added to your Address Book. To do this, go to the Tools menu in mail and select Options. On the General tab, select "Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book" and click OK. (In Outlook Express 5, this is on the Send tab.)
To delete an address, click the Address Book button and highlight the name you wish to delete. Then click the File menu, select Delete, then confirm.
Why can't I send an email?
The primary reason for not being able to send email through our servers is you may not be connecting to us i.e. you may have a broadband connection. If this is the case you will need to make one small change to your email account settings.
This is done by opening Outlook Express, clicking on the tools menu at top of screen, selecting accounts, and then make sure you are on the mail tab a the top of the screen.
Click Properties on the right hand side.
Click on servers
Here you will need to change the outgoing mail server from smtp.oneview.net to whatever the name of the smtp server your broadband provider is. Once done click ok, and then close, you will now be able to send emails.
Why can't I receive email?
There are many reasons why you cannot receive emails here is the main reason why.
If you are connected to the mail server, and are suddenly disconnected for any reason, you will not be able to log in again for five or ten minutes. During this time the mail server will respond with "unable to lock maildrop". There maybe a large email that is blocking your email account. If you try again in ten minutes, you should be able to log in again, however if you cannot, then you will need to use our webmail facility to log into the account and delete the large email that is blocking the account. |
